Collection / Transfer

The collection and transport of the managed Li-ion/LFP BESS-type battery waste in the form of battery packs is carried out by licensed collectors contracted with the PRO RE-BESS IFAISTOS, from the temporary waste storage area of the BESS (Battery Energy Storage Stations). The temporary storage shall not exceed 1 year, while the PRO is granted a deadline of 350 days to organise the collection of waste from the contracted producer.

Transport

The transport of waste is carried out from the collection points to the recycling facilities contracted with the PRO (final destination). Depending on the quantities involved, an intermediate temporary storage stage at suitable, licensed interim storage facilities may be required. Such intermediate storage shall not last more than three (3) years.

Packaging

Appropriate packaging of the received Li-ion/LFP batteries that are in a critical condition, shall be carried out in special containers, in order to be transported to the recycling facility. Packaging of batteries in a critical condition shall have the following minimum specifications:

  • Fire protection using fireproof insulation.
  • Gas leak containment system.
  • Leak retention filters.
  • Anti-corrosion protection.
